Nomura TN Japan

Nomura means 'field village', or 'wilderness field' and is also known as TN. It was one of the biggest and most prolific of all post-war Japanese toy makers and was specialized in mostly mechanical and wind-up friction toys featuring very creative designs.

Nomura started manufacturing tin toys in the late 1940s and quickly dominated the marketplace. They made orgiginal colorful tin toy cars and other vehicles that represented the new 'role model' of Western technology and Japanese spirit: Wakon Yosai.

Nomura TN LogoNomura had long been at the top of their game when Astro Boy and Tetsujin (Iron Man) 28 arrived to herald the age of homegrown SF robots, and tinplate was the perfect material to render them in three dimensions. Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet flew in from the USA to create a perfect storm, and Nomura was right there at the right time an place.

I have since the sixties a tin toy battery operated car,a Benz made by TN Nomura. Now I am trying to restore it but I found that the 'mistery' motion mechanism does not operate properly, since they car does not run in a straight path, but continue to spin in a circular way. Do you have any advice or eb site to suggest to me in order to repair then car ? Thank you very much - Carlo

Hi. I am looking for a wheel to complete a restoration of the Nomura Popcorn truck for my brother. The same wheel is on some of the farmer's trucks (Pinkee, Farmer John, etc) Need the complete wheel - tyre, hubcap, etc. Anyone know where I could get one? A cheap donor truck would be ok, as long as the wheel is identical. Thanks
It is really difficult to find original parts for these old Nomura toys... Of course, you could try and search here for Nomura Trucks, and see if you can find one for parts... Or Google 'nomura toys parts' there are some website popping up. There are also some Facebook groups with collectors of tin toys where you can ask. Good luck, hope you succeed!

When were Vintage Auto Series No. 2 made?
I can't find any info on the manufacturing years, but judging on the value (around 10-15 USD) and how they look like (plastic parts, details, box, etc.) I guess 1960s, 1970s.

I have a antique toy fire truck with a TN inside a diamond on the back, also has JAPAN opposite the TN. with FIRE DEPT wrote in English above those. It is friction and when you turn back wheels, a whistle or horn goes off. It has one side and 2 back riders. the side rider is carrying a red flag, which I think is supposed to come up when wheels turn, thinking rod came loose on inside.Who made this, when, where, and what is value?
Yes, when wheels turn the arm with flag should wave. One on eBay has been sold for 30 USD, one for sale for 99 USD. Japanese company TN (also known as Nomura) made dozens of (tin) toys in the 1960s.
